We're excited to have you here. To start off, we'd love to
get to know you! Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do!

My name is Medina Kalac, I like taking photos of my friends and those closest to me in my life. I also like developing my black and white film that I take as well.

How did you approach the theme of first encounters in your work? What initial ideas or experiences guided your creative process?

I took photos of my friend Amy. When I first met her I remember being really intrigued by her and wanting to hang out with her all the time. The thing I remember most about meeting Amy for the first time is that she was never awkward or put up a facade. I could talk to her today and it would be like the first time I met her. When she talks to people it's like she's known you all her life, and I've never met anyone like that.

In exploring the theme of first encounters, does your work convey the sense of discovery or novelty? Are there specific techniques or elements you used to capture this experience?

I'm not sure. I guess I just wanted the first encounter to be with the viewer and Amy and see the sides of her that I see.

et:

Is there a particular message or feeling you hope viewers will take away from your work in the exhibit?

I just hope that people will see someone they can relate to in Amy.

Do you think digital technologies have changed the art world? If so, in what ways?

I do. I think it's easy for people to share their work online and for a lot people to see it. Which is nice and convenient. With that being said, it's easy for people to copy your work, which is not so nice.

et:

If you could collaborate with any fictional character, who would it be and why?

The cast of Daria, I think they'd be a lot of fun to take photos with.
